Why we need Leeds MPs to back the CEE Bill now
Friday March 26th Banner Drop and Twitter storm
Since the Climate and Ecological Emergency (CEE) Bill was tabled in Parliament last September by Caroline Lucas, the Government has announced weak climate plans. The Government’s current net-zero by 2050 gives us only a 50/50 chance of not going over a critical rise in global temperature - and this is if the whole world does the same! These are terrible odds. And yet they are not even bothering to reach their own targets. Climate change is no longer a prediction, it’s a reality. We are in a climate and nature emergency. We can use the levers of government power that already exist to protect the future of life on earth. That's exactly what we have in mind with the CEE Bill.
What to do
Visit the banner in the window at Kirkstall Valley Development Trust, Unit 11, Kirkstall Bridge Shopping Park, Bridge Rd, Kirkstall, Leeds LS5 3BL. You’re allowed to be there either to shop or to exercise.
Record a short video (no more than 45 seconds) for the Leeds West MP Rachel Reeves telling her why we need the CEE Bill. Be emotive and personal, mentioning local issues such as flooding. Ask her to join other Leeds MPs Alex Sobel and Richard Burgon in supporting the Bill. Try to have the banner in the background. For hints on how to make your video for best effect, look here.
Post you video to your Twitter account, including #CEEBill @CEEBill and @RachelReevesMP. Hold back your Twitter posts until 12pm for maximum impact. For suggestions of text for your Tweet, look here.
If you don’t use Twitter, email your video directly to Rachel Reeves at: [email protected]
If you are shielding, aren’t local to Kirkstall, or prefer not to stop by at the shopping centre, you can make your video at home. If you don’t want to make a video, just Tweet instead, preferably with a picture of yourself holding your own sign.
